1. What is channeling?
When someone allows a spirit which is not their own to enter into them and speak through their vocal cords or to propose some kind of psychic knowledge which is essentially alien to them, we talk about channeling. This can mean visions, inner voice dictation or automatic writing. It can also mean something which in the Bible is called 'possession'. Read more about such channeling in this critical report.
2. Do Catholics not "channel" when they pray to the saints?
Praying to the saints has to be properly understood.
The Catholic Church believes that all the faithful, whether still on earth or with God in heaven, are part of the "communion of saints". Because in God and through God, we are all united, the Church has always allowed people to practise devotion to the saints and to ask the saints to intercede on their behalf. Catholics 'talk' to the saints in their prayers. They also have a real relationship with their dead by praying for them. But there is a major difference between this devotion and channeling. Because Catholics know that direct communication with people who have died is impossible. All communication, even in prayer, always takes place through God.
3. What about possession?
Christians shun possession. It means surrendering oneself to another spirit usually demonic in origin. Christians can have no truck with Lucifer.
